Qualifications
Ken has degrees from the University of Queensland, Central Queensland University, the University of Southern Queensland, and a PhD from Monash University. He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and a Fellow of the Australian Human Resources Institute.
Discipline Areas
Professor Parry is one of the main scholars on organisational leadership in the Australasian region. He is also an international authority on the use of qualitative methodologies in the research of the leadership process. Most recently Ken is working in the area of the "Art, Science and Drama of Leadership". The latter is the title of his most recent book, currently being written.
Books
He is the author or editor of eleven books and monographs, and seventeen book chapters, mostly in the area of leadership. His books include Grounding Leadership Theory and Research (2002), The Hero Manager: Learning from New Zealand's Top Chief Executives (2001), Leadership In the Antipodes (2001), Human Resource Management: Contemporary Challenges and Future Directions (1998), Transformational Leadership: Developing and Enterprising Management Culture (1996), and Leadership Research and Practice: Emerging Themes and New Challenges (1996). He has recently made two CDs for Management Press , the publishing arm of the Australian Institute of Management.
Refereed Articles
Ken has authored many journal articles, and numerous conference papers and professional articles and reports. He has won four awards for papers at Aust/NZ Academy of Management conferences, and an Anbar citation of research excellence for a 1999 article in the Journal of Organizational Change Management .
Editorial and Review
Ken is the Editor of the Journal of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Management (JANZAM) . He is also on the Editorial Boards of The Leadership Quarterly and the new Sage journal Leadership .
Industry Experience
Ken worked for 9 years in private industry with Meyers Taylor and Hunter Douglas as an inventory manager in the manufacturing sector.
Industry Liaison
He has addressed the Senior Executive Service of the Australian Public Service at the National Press Club, and has consulted and taught throughout Australasia and South-east Asia. Professor Parry has made in excess of 800 managers into better leaders in the past few years, and regularly receives evaluations of 'outstanding' and 'excellent'. He is widely used as a speaker at professional conferences and industry events. Ken has conducted two national surveys and more recently is researching chief executive derailment. He has been a judge at the New Zealand KPMG Public Sector Innovation Awards , the AIM management excellence awards and the Queensland Premiers awards for excellence in public sector management .
